200 Hour Modern Meditation Teacher Training

At The School of Modern Meditation (SOMM), we believe meditation is not simply a technique, but a path of agency, awareness, emotional maturity, compassion and most importantly, conscious participation in the world.

Our Modern Meditation Teacher Certification Program is a 200 Hour, nine-month professional online training program designed to develop experienced practitioners who can confidently teach meditation and awareness-based practices, or integrate them into therapeutic, coaching, educational, or leadership contexts. Today, perhaps more than ever, we need meditation teachers who are steady, psychologically informed, and committed to their own practice. Training to teach is about becoming the kind of person who can hold space in a world that can move too fast and fragment if we aren’t paying attention.

This program consists of seven modules. The first six modules are live online sessions with Claire, with mentoring and study requirements, the final module is where you will integrate your learning with practice and teaching. The live sessions with Claire will be on eight Wednesday evenings at NZ 6:30pm - 9:00 pm. Each session is recorded for those who cannot make them.

When you join this training, you become part of the SOMM community, a collective of practitioners and students committed to emotional maturity, nervous system literacy, and compassionate living. Our graduates go on to teach in studios, therapy rooms, workplaces, schools, retreats, and living rooms. Some build businesses; others quietly integrate meditation into existing careers. All deepen their own capacity for awareness and compassion. The comprehensive curriculum combines theory, philosophy, ancient knowledge, and science with the practicalities of being a teacher in this modern world. During the program, students will have many real opportunities to lead groups, guide meditations, create workshops and learn how to support fellow meditators and those new to meditation.

This training is facilitated by SOMM Founder, Claire Robbie and includes a mentorship with SOMM co-owners and meditation teachers Aviette Musin & Mark Edwards. Upon completion of the program, you will be certified by both The School of Modern Meditation and The Meditation Alliance International, with an option to certify with the Meditation Association of Australia.

Note: SOMM’s foundational course Meditation Fundamentals is a prerequisite for this advanced training.
